How to add a link to your TikTok bio, with or without 1,000 followers

By Alex, Founder, KreatorMesh · Published 5 October 2026

A TikTok profile can carry one clickable website link, and it is the main way a viewer gets from your videos to your shop, newsletter or booking page. TikTok only offers it to some accounts, and the rule is narrower than most guides say. This page covers the rule as TikTok’s own help centre states it, the steps to add the link, what to do while you cannot, and how to make the link work once you have it — including a detail about TikTok’s in-app browser that affects every link-in-bio page. KreatorMesh makes one of the link-in-bio tools listed at the end; the rest of the guide applies whichever you use.

TL;DR

  • TikTok’s rule: you can add a website link once you have at least 1,000 followers, or at any follower count with a Verified Business Account.
  • Switching to a business account is not the same as verifying one. Verification needs you to be 18 or over and to have a valid business licence; a plain business account also limits you to TikTok’s Commercial Music Library.
  • To add it: Profile → Edit profile → next to Links, tap Add.
  • Under 1,000 followers and no business licence? Point people to a platform with no minimum — Instagram lets any account add up to five links — and keep growing.
  • TikTok opens links in its own browser and may ask visitors to switch to their phone’s browser when a page leads on to other sites. Keep the path short: one tap from your profile to the page, one more to the destination.

Step by step

  1. 1

Check whether you can already add it

Open the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom, then Edit profile. If there is a Links row with an Add button, you qualify: tap Add and follow the steps. If the row is not there, your account is under 1,000 followers and is not a Verified Business Account.

  2. 2

Decide what the one link should open

If you sell one thing or want one action — a course, a booking page, a newsletter — link straight to it. TikTok itself recommends direct links so people reach the page in as few steps as possible. If you genuinely have several destinations, link to a link-in-bio page that lists them, with the most important one first.

  3. 3

If you are under 1,000 followers: choose your route

There are two routes to the link. The first is reaching 1,000 followers, which is what most creators do. The second is business verification, which TikTok offers to accounts of any size and type: you need to be 18 or over and have a valid business licence that matches the country you operate in. If you are a registered business, verification is worth doing; if you are not, the follower route is the only one.

  4. 4

Know what a business account changes

Many guides say that switching to a business account makes the link appear. TikTok’s help page names a Verified Business Account, which means passing business verification, not just switching account type. Switching does have a cost: a business account only sees sounds from TikTok’s Commercial Music Library, not the full library of trending sounds. Do not give that up expecting a link the switch alone may not bring.

  5. 5

Until then, send people where links have no minimum

Instagram lets any account add up to five websites to its profile. Put your Instagram handle in your TikTok bio, say “links on my Instagram” in videos where it matters, and put the real links there. When someone asks in the comments, reply with where to find it.

  6. 6

Make the page fast and the path short

When someone taps a profile link, TikTok opens it in its own in-app browser. TikTok says it limits how people browse chains of external links there for safety, so a visitor may be asked to open the page in their phone’s browser instead. Every extra hop is a chance to lose them. Use a page that loads quickly on mobile data, needs no login, and reaches the destination in one more tap.

  7. 7

    Measure which link people tap

Once the link is live, count what it does. A link-in-bio tool that counts taps per link shows which offer people want; adding a UTM tag — a label such as ?utm_source=tiktok on the end of the address — makes the visit show up as TikTok in Google Analytics on your own site. Without either, you cannot tell whether TikTok sends anyone at all.

Mistakes that waste the link

Switching to business just for the link

TikTok’s rule names a Verified Business Account. Switching account type alone limits your sounds to the Commercial Music Library and may still leave the link unavailable.

Linking to another app instead of a website

TikTok no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps. Link to the platform’s website, or to a page of your own.

A long chain of redirects

Profile, then a bio page, then a shortener, then a landing page: each hop is another chance for TikTok’s safety prompt or a slow load to lose the visitor.

A slow or login-walled page

Most taps happen on a phone, inside TikTok, often on mobile data. A heavy page or one that asks people to sign in first loses many of them.

Burying the main link

If the page lists eight things, the one that pays your bills should be first and look different from the rest.

Saying “link in bio” when there is no link

Under 1,000 followers the link does not exist yet. Say where the link actually is — usually your Instagram — so viewers do not go looking and give up.

Not counting taps

Without click counts or a UTM tag you cannot tell whether TikTok sends anyone, or which offer they want.

Changing the destination and forgetting old videos

People keep finding old videos long after you post them. If a video says “the free guide is in my bio”, the guide should still be there when it is found.

The exact taps

Adding the link, as TikTok describes it: in the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom, tap Edit profile, tap Add next to Links, and follow the steps to add your website. The link appears on your profile, and tapping it opens the page in TikTok’s in-app browser.

Verifying a business, as TikTok’s business help centre describes it: from your profile, tap the Menu icon at the top right, then Settings and privacy, then Account, then Business verification. Agree to the terms, tap Get started, fill in your business details, upload your business licence (TikTok lists the accepted documents by country), and submit. You must be 18 or over. Business verification is not the blue checkmark, which TikTok reserves for high-profile accounts.

Tagging the link so you can measure it: if your link goes to your own website, add ?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=social to the end of the address. Visits from it will then appear under that source in Google Analytics or most other website analytics, separate from everything else.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I add a link to my TikTok bio?

Because TikTok only offers the website link to accounts with at least 1,000 followers, or to Verified Business Accounts at any size. If you have neither, the Links option does not appear under Edit profile.

Does switching to a business account let me add a link?

Not according to TikTok’s help centre, which names a Verified Business Account — one that has passed business verification — rather than any business account. Switching also limits your sounds to the Commercial Music Library. Some older guides say the switch alone is enough; check TikTok’s current rule before giving up trending sounds for it.

How do I verify my business on TikTok?

Tap the Menu icon on your profile, then Settings and privacy → Account → Business verification, agree to the terms, fill in your business details and upload a valid business licence. You need to be 18 or over, and verification is available in about 85 markets, listed on TikTok’s business help centre.

Is business verification the same as the blue checkmark?

No. TikTok says business verification is different from the blue checkmark, which is only for high-profile accounts such as celebrities and major brands.

Can I put a link in a TikTok caption or comment?

You can type an address, but for regular accounts it is not a tappable link, so most viewers will not visit it. TikTok lets Verified Business Accounts attach a destination link to videos; for everyone else, the profile link is the clickable one.

What happens when someone taps my TikTok link?

The page opens in TikTok’s in-app browser. TikTok says that, for safety, it limits how people browse chains of external links there, so a visitor may see a prompt to open the page in their phone’s own browser. Keeping your page fast and the path to the destination short reduces how many people you lose there.

Should I link to one page or use a link-in-bio tool?

If there is one thing you want people to do, link to it directly; TikTok recommends direct links. If you have several — a course, a free download, a booking page — a link-in-bio page holds them all, and the better ones tell you which gets tapped.

How do I know whether people click my TikTok link?

Use a link-in-bio tool that counts taps per link, or add a UTM tag such as ?utm_source=tiktok to the address so the visits show up as TikTok in your website’s analytics.

Can I link to my Instagram from TikTok?

TikTok no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps, but you can add a link to a platform’s website. Under 1,000 followers you cannot add any link, so put your Instagram handle in your bio text instead.

Does KreatorMesh’s link-in-bio page work on TikTok?

Yes. The page at kreatormesh.com/@yourname is a few kilobytes with no scripts, so it opens quickly in TikTok’s browser, and it recognises visits that come from TikTok’s in-app browser, so the numbers show how many visitors TikTok sends and which link they tap. It comes with every KreatorMesh plan, from $12 a month; there is no free plan.
